If you’re a runner with your sights set on horizon’s further than your local block this is the trip for you.
Join in the Erbil Marathon, in Iraqi Kurdistan, with time to not only take part in an excellent race, but also explore parts of the region. You will have chance to explore the capital, Erbil, and also visit Lalish, the spiritual home of the Yazidi people. You will also have chance to take part in a training day in the area’s stunning mountains, with female runners, giving you a taste of life in Northern Iraq.
There are three distances (5km, 10km and full marathon), so even if you are not an experienced runner, you can still take part and enjoy the event and the famous Kurdish hospitality.
Iraqi Kurdistan has largely escaped the violence that has plagued the rest of the country and is a great way to get a flavour of modern Iraq.
