Join this carefully curated Marwar horse riding adventure following the leopard trail and enjoy the perfect mix of landscapes and experiences that epitomise Rajasthan.
Magical Marwar & Pauhkar Fair Ride
Explore the middle of Northern India’s celebrated “Golden Triangle” on this incredible horse riding adventure.
Start your Marwar horse riding adventure in Udaipur (the lake city) riding the unique Marwari breed horses in their native homeland. Follow the ‘Leopard Trail’ riding along dry riverbeds, through villages and riding in the plains of the Aravalli hills so-called because of the chance to spot the wild Leopards which roam the area.
After a long day’s ride you’ll overnight in comfortable tents with ensuite facilities so you’ll be well rested and ready for your next day in the saddle.
The next stage of the ride includes a visit to the enormous Mehrangarh Fort and the blue city of Jodhpur. Continue your ride into the Thar Desert, camping atop pristine sand dunes where you’ll be able to see the incredible star-filled night sky. After that it’s on to the highlight of the ride, the famous Pushkar Camel Fair. This annual spectacle attracts thousands of camel, horse and cattle traders from all over Northern India to exhibit and sell their animals and is an important pilgrimage season for Hindus to the Pushkar Lake. Expect a real carnival feel with many colourful cultural events and competitions.
This adventure embraces everything that is ‘magical Marwar’. Ride through villages and farms that are truly off the proverbial beaten track and therefore offer the chance to meet villagers and desert tribal communities along the route. This ride will give you a holiday to remember for all the right reasons. Make an enquiry today and we’ll connect you with the local organisers to secure your place on this popular and all encompassing ride.

Currency
- India is a closed currency, which means you cannot buy rupees before you travel.
- It is recommended you bring £200 – £300 cash with you and change £25 on arrival in India at the airport and check the exchange rate on date of travel so you know what is a good rate. Generally airports do not give the best rates, it is better to change the majority of your cash at the hotels in Udaipur, Jodhpur or at Pushkar.
- VISA is accepted at most shops and hotels, but not for exchanging money, only for buying or paying for goods.
Luggage
- It is advisable to keep baggage to a minimum as it travels with you each day. On the ride your ‘main bag’ goes in the camp lorry and you will be reunited with it every evening – smaller ‘day bags’ go in the follow jeep and will be available to access during lunch.
Cultural awareness
- Cover your shoulders please, especially in the rural areas and be aware of low cut tops (wear a scarf if necessary).
- Ladies please ask if you want to change into shorts at lunchtime during the ride, as you may be near a farmers house or temple, where it would be frowned upon locally to show your legs.
WiFi
- All hotels have free wifi (sometimes limited to the reception area) and network coverage is generally good in India, though there are some black holes during the ride.
Tipping
- Tipping is the custom in India.
- In hotels – it is custom to tip the room boys 50 rupees per bag.
- On the ride – It is suggested a tip at the end of the ride, of 13,000 INR from each guest (ie £10 for each day of your holiday) – but ONLY if you have enjoyed it and you feel the grooms and tent boys deserve it!
- Please tip all together at the horse goodbye ceremony. A tip bag is passed round the guests the night before and the proceeds are split it into tentwalas / grooms / transport / logistics / kitchen & bar teams. This way those behind the scenes, are counted in as without them this trip would not function.
